SINNE EEG & THE DANISH RADIO BIG BAND, We've Just Begun

February 7, 2020

Album titles can be so delightfully ironic sometimes. Seventeen years and nine celebrated albums into her highly celebrated career as one of the top jazz vocalists in Scandinavia, sensual, supple voiced, multiple Danish Music Award winning interpreter and songwriter Sinne Eeg is joyfully and soulfully swinging through her declaration that We’ve Just Begun.

From the brisk, brass punched stroll through the title track (which she co-wrote with Mark Winkler) through the rousing, anthem-like blues-jazz-gospel romp “To A New Day” that wraps the eclectic ten track set, the singer embraces is a fresh new phase in her career featuring her first ever collaboration with The Danish Radio Big Band.

The ensemble’s tasteful grooves and simmering brass is sheer delight behind Eeg as she zooms buoyantly from cool, understated original ballads  (“Like A Song,” “Those Ordinary Things”) to a sultry, old timey jaunt through a Danish film classic, a feisty, bebop romp through “My Favorite Things” and the steamy exquisiteness of her original “Samba Em Comum” (sung in Portuguese and English).

Yet the ongoing sense of magic in the set emerges with the powerhouse soloing of individual group members (including pianist Henrik Gunde, flutist Nicolai Schultz and flugelhornist Gerard Presencer), who add emotional heft and depth behind her soul-stirring performances.
