SANDRA NORTH, "Same Story 'Bout a Broken Heart"

From the first blast of the infectious, empowering hard rockin’ chorus of Sandra North’s new single “Same Story ‘Bout of Broken Heart,” you’ll forget any previous stereotypes about the kind of music popping out of Sweden.

While hailing from the land of ABBA, Roxette and pop megaproducers Shellback and Max Martin, the emotionally charged singer/songwriter has had the explosive contemporary country vibe down cold since following her dreams to Los Angeles in the mid-2010s.

Co-written with singer/songwriter and producer Juan Abella of the L.A. rock project Vicious Rooster, the fiery track is attitude laden pop/rock driven country at its most hypnotic and compelling, on par or even surpassing anything we’re hearing these days from Carrie Underwood, Maren Morris, Kelsea Ballerini and Lady Antebellum - only with more grit, intensity and a “lived in” quality of someone who’s been in a lot of dark places but vows to be no more.

Lyrically, Sandra reflects on why she’s telling the same story of a mismatched relationship yet again. She weighs expectations against disappointments with a touch of sarcasm to create a powerful message that through our frustration, we can dig out, dust off, learn from our mistakes (no matter how many times we make up) and move on. Sonically, Sandra and Abella make the unique decision to start sparsely with jangling banjo and harmonica with her filtered vocal, teasing our ears a bit before the full thrust of a powerhouse guitar driven rock production underscores the heartbreaking but ultimately hopeful narrative.

After you’ve enjoyed and been lifted over and over, make sure you turn your attention to the singer’s debut single “Try Again,” a ballad that hit #1 on the Swedish Radio show “P4 Sörmland's Top 5” and stayed on the chart for 15 weeks.
