With motor already humming, and tribal drums bustling, veteran singer/songwriter Stacy Robin uses her beautifully sensual rasp to pull us into her feisty and empowering world music fired pop/rock anthem “Drive” – the lead single from her upcoming album Where Truth Lies - with lines inviting line that sets her (ultimately successful!) intention to create this generation’s “Born to Be Wild”: “Take to the highway, wide open road/Throw down the windows, my lungs overload.”

Produced and co-written (with Stacy) by genre-busting multi-instrumentalist and renowned “sound painter” David Vito Gregoli, “Drive” is, like the Steppenwolf classic, all about breaking free, shattering the ties that bind and embracing the daring possibilities of the open road. It naturally includes a sly reference to the song by mentioning she “belongs to the wild” after each iteration of the soaring, propulsive chorus “Roll with my demons, slide into the door/Crash through the guardrails…”

Fret not, though, she’s definitely in control of her destiny here, adding “Move over darling and let me drive” and insists she’s the calm in the storm It’s a fascinating symphonic rock journey throughout, with her slyly introducing dangerous, (perhaps metaphoric, perhaps not) elements along the way like “shotgun wound,” “beat of the knife” and the admonition to her companion “Buckle up, buttercup, we’ll make it out alive.” In the end, what looks like fear, as if she’s running from something scary, feels like love. She notes that it’s pure blind faith that makes her feel that way, before emphatically telling said companion, “I’ll take the wheel baby, just let me drive.”

While “Drive” rolls along like a dynamic pop/rocker when Stacy’s pouring out her emotion, Vito’s long established love for global music – and his anxious jangling of acoustic guitars and tribal percussion – makes it just as much a trip into some exotic foreign realm, as if Stacy is ambitiously driving from a conventional life into something far more intriguing.

If Stacy’s somehow new on your radar, just know that when she’s not working her important day job as Laboratory Director at a Cedar Sinai Medical Center research program, she’s been a constant on the indie rock scene in Los Angeles, sharing both live and on previous recordings her colorful palette incorporating pop, rock, folk, world music, Americana, indie pop, soft rock and alternative influences. Her accolades include nominations for a 2013 Critics Award, a 2014 LA Music Award (Best Female Singer/Songwriter) and an International Acoustic Music Award in the AAA/Alternative Song Category.

Though “Drive” was released in the fall of 2025, it’s a great track to get the blood pumping and the perfect soundtrack to a positive mindset as we speed into 2026. Buckle up!
