Over the past several years, with her releases Breath of Gratitude and Breathe III, Juliet Lyons has created a deeply personal body of work rooted in breath, healing and inner renewal—music shaped not only by her keen artistic instincts but by lived experience. With One Minute Mantras I: Awakening, she introduces a new creative identity, Apstara, and with it, a subtle but meaningful shift in focus. Where earlier projects often unfolded as expansive, emotionally immersive journeys, this collection is built on the radical simplicity of the present moment—offering listeners a chance to reset, recalibrate and reconnect sixty (give or take) seconds at a time.

The concept is disarmingly understated yet quietly profound: eight concise mantra-based pieces, framed by two slightly longer ambient “threshold” compositions, designed to guide the listener into and out of a meditative state. As Juliet explains, “I didn’t want to create something that asked more of people…I wanted to create something that gives back.” In an era where even self-care can feel like a time-consuming task, Awakening meets listeners where they are, potentially transforming even the briefest pause into something meaningful.
From the opening piece “Inner Dawning,” Lyons establishes the project’s tone with breathy ambience, delicate piano figures and her signature ethereal vocal presence, creating a sense of gentle arrival. The pieces that follow function as both musical sketches and centering anchors. “The Wordless Voice” introduces a softly hypnotic affirmation wrapped in subtle, exotic textures, while “Let the Mind Rest” lives up to its title with a graceful, uncluttered flow that encourages stillness without effort.
Throughout the collection, Lyons balances the celestial and the grounded with increasing nuance. “Unbounded Self” expands into a more spacious, almost orchestral ambience, her voice reaching into a higher, more luminous register, while “Let the Light In” shifts the energy with a deeper rhythmic, almost tribal, pulse, bringing an earthy, embodied quality to its message of inner illumination. Similarly, “I Am Enough” transforms a unadorned affirmation into something quietly powerful through layered vocal textures and a gently evolving groove.
One of the most compelling aspects of Awakening is the way Juliet uses repetition not as redundancy but as reinforcement—each phrase, each melodic turn acting as a soft imprint on the listener’s awareness. On “Infinite Light,” shimmering chimes and ambient tones frame her repeated invocation of beauty and presence, while “Part of the Journey” introduces a more conversational tone, grounding its message of perseverance in a subtly more rhythmic, human cadence.
The closing sequence deepens the project’s quiet resonance. “Divine Perfect Timing,” with its heartbeat-like pulse and resonant bell textures, creates a sense of alignment between inner and outer worlds, while “Return to Morning” gently dissolves the structure altogether, offering a more atmospheric, open-ended space that lingers beyond the listening experience.
What distinguishes One Minute Mantras I: Awakening is not just its brevity – perhaps the most musically-spiritually enriching 15 minutes you’ll ever spend - but its intention. Lyons has distilled her aesthetic—airy synth textures, bell-like accents, layered reverbs and a voice that feels both intimate and otherworldly—into its most essential form. The result is music that doesn’t demand immersion so much as invite it, offering small but meaningful breakthroughs of clarity in the midst of a busy, anxious and often overwhelming world.
In stepping into Apstara, Juliet isn’t leaving her previous artistry behind—she’s refining her purpose. These pieces may be brief, but their impact is cumulative, reminding us that even a single minute, approached with awareness, can shift the course of a day.
